New online evening course on magic in the European history of religions

What is the role of magic in the European history of religions? Who practiced magic, why and how did they do it? This Spring the History of Religions department at Stockholm University offers an online, half-time evening course that explores these and related questions.

Fingrar

The course "Magic in the European history of religions: texts and traditions" introduces some of the most important magical texts and traditions that have flourished in Europe from late antiquity to the present day. We will read a selection of magical texts in translation, and discuss their contents, contexts, and history of use. Participants will learn about the overlaps between magic, science, and religion, what magical texts tell us about transcultural encounters between religions, and the enduring significance of magic in European culture.

Sign up now to learn everything you need to know about what the conjuration of demons, conversations with angels, or beliefs in the influence of the stars tell us about the history of religions in Europe!
