New Article from the 2019 Ryder expedition to North Greenland
Using marine sediment cores collected during the 2019 Ryder expedition to Northern Greenland on icebreaker Oden, the Holocene retreat and advance behavior of Ryder Glacier is reconstructed. This new research shows that while Sherard Osborn Fjord has a physiography conducive to glacier and ice tongue stability, Ryder Glacier still retreated more than 40 km inland from its current position by the Middle Holocene – highlighting the sensitivity of north Greenland's marine glaciers to climate change.
