Patricia Shaughnessy started the master programme in International Commercial Arbitration Law (ICAL) about 20 years ago, and has since then taught within other related areas of law at SULaw.

Patricia Shaughnessy, who is currently a professor of law at Stockholm University, brings a wealth of experience to the position as new President of the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot. She has acted as an arbitrator, expert, and consultant, and leads projects related to commercial law and dispute resolution in many countries. She has also been a member of several arbitration-related organizations, including the ICC Court of Arbitration and the SCC Arbitration Institute.

The Willem C. Vis Moot, which was first held in 1994, is a highly respected competition that attracts participants from over 400 law schools from over 90 countries around the world. It simulates a commercial arbitration proceeding and requires students to argue cases before a panel of expert arbitrators.

In her new role, Shaughnessy will oversee the competition's operations and work to ensure its continued success and relevance in the ever-evolving field of international arbitration. She will also be responsible for maintaining the high standards of the competition and ensuring that it remains a valuable learning experience for students.

The next edition of the Willem C. Vis Moot is scheduled to take place in Vienna in April 2024, and under Shaughnessy's leadership, it is expected to be yet another successful event.
