Application

You apply to our Master's programme via universityadmissions.se .

We admit students once per year. You will find exact dates on universityadmissions.se.

When the application period is open, you will find a blue button for application on the programme page. The link leads to the central application web site universityadmissions.se. The site contains all the information you need to be able to apply: key dates, documents you need to upload and more.

Apply to master's

For the specific entry requirements you need to upload the following documents:

  • Bachelor's diploma
  • Bachelor's thesis
  • Transcript of records
  • Motivation letter

If you wrote your thesis in a language other than English please submit the thesis in original along with a summary in English (max 1 page).

Unfortunately, we cannot make any pre-assessments of documents or eligibility.  All applications are first assessed by the national admissions system and only at a later stage by Stockholm University.

It is mandatory to submit a motivation letter when you apply for the Master's Programme in AI and Language. The admission board will not consider CV or recommendation letters.

It is mandatory to submit a motivation letter. We recommend you to include some of the following information:

  • Tell us something about yourself. Who are you?
  • Motivate why you want to study this programme.
  • Motivate why you are a good candidate for the programme.

Maximum one A4 page, no spacing. Save the letter as “Motivation letter HSAIO” and upload it to universityadmissions.se.

In order to be eligible for this masters programme, you need to have a degree of 180 ECTS
credits, including a degree project, in linguistics, computational linguistics, language
technology, computer science, computer and systems sciences, cognitive science, engi-
neering physics, engineering mathematics, or equivalent.

The selection is made from the following three criteria:

  • The relevance of previous studies in relation to the programme
  • Mandatory motivation letter
  • Subject and quality of your bachelor's thesis, or equivalent

Tuition and application fees

Students with citizenship in countries outside the EU/EEA, or Switzerland, are required to pay application and tuition fees for studies at Stockholm University.

If you are a citizen outside of the EU, EEA or Switzerland, the first instalment is 67 500 SEK and the complete programme costs 270 000 SEK.

You pay for one semester at the time in advance. The first instalment of the tuition fee must be paid in order for the Swedish Migration Agency to start processing your application for a resident permit for studies.

Requirements

If you do not hold the required degree but are registered for the last year of a programme leading to such a degree, Stockholm University permits conditional admission if you can provide:

  • an updated transcripts of records, 
  • an abstract or summary (max 1 page, in English) of your planned thesis project, and
  • if you are an international applicant, you need to upload an official document stating that you are likely to be awarded the degree by the start of the Swedish programme. The document has to be issued through and certified by a representative of the Academic Registrar's Office, the Examinations Office or equivalent of the institution.

All courses and programmes at Stockholm University require proof of proficiency in English equivalent to the Swedish upper secondary school course English 6.

Deadline for uploading supporting academic documents on universityadmissions.se is usually two weeks after the application deadline.

We cannot accept any additional supporting documents after the application deadline for supporting documents.

 

Late application

If the admission is closed, you are not able to apply. Occasionally some programmes are open for late application. In that case it is indicated at University admissions.
