Policy regarding enrollment of different student categories into internship and research projects

Every year we welcome exchange students and free-movers to do internships at MMK. Below you will find the MMK policy regarding enrollment to into courses and insurance requirements. If you have any questions or feel unsure on how to proceed, please contact the Chemistry Section & Student Affairs Office for guidance.

These students come from universities in EU/EES countries that SU does not have an exchange agreement with. The student will carry a "Learning agreement for Traineeships"

The student is directly contacting a PI at MMK about doing an internship/project in the PIs lab.

An individual learning agreement is established by the student’s home university and then signed by the home university of the student, the student, the PI and one of the directors of studies at MMK.

This student will not formally be a student at SU and should not / can’t be admitted or registered on any courses at SU!

There is no student insurance for these “students”.

At SU the student should be viewed as a “guest student” and access to MMK needs to be cleared with head of the department. Student also needs to be registerd in control panel.

MMK will not get any HÅPs for the supervision of this “student”

If you are contacted by an Erasmus student wanting to do an internship/project in your group and are unsure whether the student is a non-exchange Erasmus+ or an exchange Erasmus student (see below) please contact the Chemistry Section & Student Affairs Office for guidance before getting back to the student.

You are also responsible to get insurance for the student through Kammarkollegiet.

These students come from universities in EU/EES that SU has an exchange agreement with and the students are nominated by their home university to go on exchange.

The Chemistry Section & Student Affairs Office get information about these nominated students and will advice on which courses the students will be taking during their exchange. The Chemistry Section & Student Affairs Office will also handle LADOK admittance and registration.

Many of these students do an internship as part of their exchange period, and are asked to contact the PIs at MMK to inquire about possible supervision - in some cases KÖL will assist but own initiatve from students is encouraged.

The Chemistry Section & Student Affairs Office will also handle LADOK admittance and registration after the student and PI have filled in and signed a research plan approved by director of studies.

The form to fill out is found here (link to be added shortly).

If you are contacted by an Erasmus student that wants to do an internship/project in your group and are unsure whether the student is an exchange Erasmus student or a non-exchange Erasmus+ free mover (see above) please contact the The Chemistry Section & Student Affairs Office.

Students from universities outside of EU/EES (not part of Erasmus) and that SU does not have any exchange agreement with.

These students can apply to internship or project courses via www.universityadmission.se to get admitted and registered. This way MMK will get HÅP. However, they will then need to pay application fee (around 1000 SEK) and tuition fee (35 000 SEK/15 hp). As a registerd student, the student is coverd by full insurance

Another alternative is that the student comes as a guest student, without applying through university admission. The student doesn’t get any credits and MMK does not get any HÅPs for the supervision of this “student”. Student has to be registerd in the control panel, and you are responsible to get insurance from Kammarkollegiet.

Any person from an EU/EES country can apply to the internship and research project courses MMK offer via www.universityadmission.se.

As long as the student full-fills the entry requirements and has found a PI at MMK willing to supervise them, the student can be admitted and registered on internship courses.

There is no learning agreement that needs to be signed.

Observe that as part of the application the student will need to submit a research plan signed by the student and PI at MMK that has agreed to supervise the internship. Student needs to registerd in Control panel.

As a registerd student, the student is covered by insurance.

The student should be registered and examined on a master thesis project course at their home university.

MMK will not get any HÅPs for the supervision of this “student”

At MMK the student will be considered a “guest student”. The student will get credits from his/her home university but MMK does not get any HÅPs for the supervision of this “student”. Access to MMK needs to be obtained from the head of the department and registerd in the  control panel.

If you accept a non-insured student, as per above you will need to purchase insurance from Kammarkollegiet.

More information on Kammarkollegiet website

If you need assitance, please contact Ann-Sofie Pettersson, ann-sofi.pettersson@mmk.su.se
