Welcome to the Department of Media Studies!

The offices of the department are located in Garnisonen and The Film House. The department offers undergraduate, masters, and doctoral education in four areas: Cinema Studies, Journalism, Media and Communication Studies and Fashion Studies. You can find us either on Karlavägen 104 or Borgvägen 1-5.

Dr. Martin Karlsson successfully defended his PhD thesis today

Dr. Martin Karlsson successfully defended his PhD thesis "Governing the news - A study of problems and solutions in Swedish public service broadcasting news and policy between 1954 and 2015" at Stockholm University today February 10, 2023. The examination committee announced its unanimous verdict in the afternoon, saying that he had passed. Senior Lecturer Simon Dawes, Université de Versailles Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, was his External reviewer.

Kristyn Gorton: 'They saw this massive decline in numbers when they came back'

On Tuesday afternoon, Bonnier guest professor Kristyn Gorton, delivered a speech on 'Media, Emotion and Resilience' at Stockholm University. After the pandemic she found out how the conditions for the production of tv fiction drastically had changed as the Covid-19 virus swept around the globe.
