JMK Roundtable: Cosmopolitanism and Communication

Event

Date: Tuesday 17 September 2024

Time: 15.00 – 16.30

Location: Sal 1 Garnisonen

Guest speaker Fergal Lenehan of Jena University in Germany and IMS researchers Miyase Christensen, Joy Kibarabara, Christian Schwieter and Alexa Robertson.

What do different scholars mean when they use the word ‘cosmopolitanism’ in their work? What are the differences between ‘cosmopolitan journalism’ and ‘constructive journalism’. What do the academic discourses on platform regulation and cosmopolitan solutions to global problems have to say to each other? And does cosmopolitanism have a future in a communication landscape overshadowed by hate speech, disinformation, and right-wing alternative media?

These are among the questions to be discussed at an informal roundtable that begins in sal 1 at 15.00 and moves to a reception in the JMK-library at 16.30.

Roundtable participants are guest speaker Fergal Lenehan of Jena University in Germany and IMS researchers Miyase Christensen, Joy Kibarabara, Christian Schwieter and Alexa Robertson.

All faculty, PhD candidate and Masters students are welcome to attend.
