Cultural Studies of Production 6 ECTS

This PhD-course combines theory and practice through text seminars and fieldwork carried out in a cultural institution in Stockholm.

It brings together PhD students, professors and cultural workers to investigate various aspects of the production of culture and helps establish useful networks both within and outside of academia.

The aim of the course is to give doctoral students the opportunity to apply theoretical and methodological knowledge and interests to a specific research topic within the framework of a field study.

  • The course is given within the agreement that SU has with Kulturhuset/Stadsteatern
  • The course is cross-departmental and is open to all PhD candidates at SU.

1) a joint week of text seminars and practical workshops to be given in Stockholm,

2) a 4-week long internship at a cultural institution (located in Stockholm),

3) a research project independently conducted during this internship, and

4) joint seminars during the internship and a final peer-review seminar.

The course also includes a joint study trip.

The Field Study

The field study is carried out at a cultural institution. The field study must result in a scientific investigation of a selected research problem or issue.

The research question is chosen by the student in consultation with teachers and cultural institution.
