Title: Between sea ice and cloud - measuring the Arctic atmosphere
Abstract
This seminar will take a look back over (almost) 20 years of research into a range of (mostly) atmospheric science problems related to Arctic climate. All of that work has been based on field measurements, from both ships and aircraft - much of it in collaboration with colleagues at Stockholm University. As a boundary layer meteorologist my research has always had a central focus on turbulent exchange between the surface and atmosphere, but links to many other topics, and I have been involved in research on: surface flux parameterization over ice, cloud processes, the interactions between cloud and boundary layer structure, aerosol processes, air-sea gas exchange, and the evaluation of models. I will touch on most of these, but focus a little more on the measurements -
the difficulties presented by working in the Arctic, and some of the rewards.
