Several crucial climate tipping points may be passed at 1.5°C of global warming

Several crucial tipping points in the Earth's climate system may be passed if the global average temperature rise goes above 1.5°C. A new study published in the journal Science shows that the goal to limit warming to below 2°C is not enough to avoid dangerous changes in climate.

An international team of scientists have identified sixteen (16) climate tipping points through a comprehensive review of over 200 publications.  There is already a risk of passing five of these dangerous tipping points and five more become possible around 1.5°C.
