Master's Programmes

Our master's programmes are focused on climate change, environmental management, GIS and remote sensing, glaciology and polar environments, land- and water resources, landscape ecology and landscape analysis.
We offer five international master's programmes. They comprise 120 credits, corresponding to two years of full-time studies. Read more about each programme below.
Environmental Management and Physical Planning
The programme focuses on environmental science and physical planning. It provides students with a systems perspective on environmental issues, focusing on planning processes, international and transboundary issues, and practical training in tools such as systems analysis.
Geomatics with Remote Sensing and GIS
This programme will develop students’ skills in several fields, for example, photogrammetry, remote sensing, GIS as well as methods for modelling, explorative data analysis and visualisation with a focus on landscape information.
Hydrology, Hydrogeology and Water Resources
Note: The Master's Programme will not start in the autumn semester 2023.
Many environmental risks and societal concerns are directly related to the way we manage our land and water environments. This programme provides extended knowledge about water and soil systems, including pollution spreading and associated risks for society.
Hydrology, Hydrogeology and Water Resources (from autumn semester 2021)
Landscape Ecology
Landscape patterns and land use change are important components for understanding ecological processes affecting biodiversity and ecosystem functions and services.
Polar Landscapes and Quaternary Climate
Analyzing the Earth’s landscapes, landforms, and sediments, you learn about climate and environmental changes and acquire useful transferable skills. Allows for specializations towards glaciology and polar environments, and climate reconstruction and modelling.
Freestanding courses at Master's (advanced) level
Most of our courses at master’s level (advanced level) are offered as freestanding courses.
All internships and degree projects at the advanced level are not given as independent/freestanding courses. More information can be found under Degree Projects and Traineeship.
Before applying for such a course, it is especially important to check the entry requirements. All our advanced level courses require knowledge in English equivalent to Swedish upper secondary school course English 6. PhD Studies

Studying for a PhD gives you the opportunity to really dive into a subject, conduct independent research, and share your new research results and knowledge in a dissertation.

Bachelor's Programmes, in Swedish

We offer three bachelor’s programmes, all in collaboration with other departments and our focus is Earth sciences (geosciences), physical geography where a central theme is sustainability.
Only in Swedish:
Bachelor's Programme in Biology-Earth Sciences
Bachelor's Programme in Geography
Bachelor's Programme in Earth Science
Bachelor's Programme in Earth Science, Distance Learning, in English
This internet based distance learning programme is offered in English and is organised by the Department of Geological Sciences.
Freestanding courses at Bachelor's (first) level
We offer several distance learning courses (taught in English) as freestanding courses. These courses are also given within the Bachelor's Programme in Earth Science, distance learning. For more information about our courses please see ”Find your course or programme” further down this page or,
