Application, admission and registration to a course

There are three steps that must be completed in order for you to take a course at the Department of Physics. First you need to apply for the course, then be accepted and then you have to register. Note that you must apply for courses before each semester. This also applies if you are admitted to a programme.

You apply for a course via Stockholm University's central education catalogue. The deadline is April 15 for autumn semester courses and October 15 for the spring semester. On each course page there is important information about the course, e.g., the requirements for the course, when in the semester the course will be given, and if the course is open for application, together with a direct link to the application page for the course.

Application and admission

The first step is to apply for the course. Your application will be checked to assess eligibility. If the eligibility requirements are met and there are still places available for the course, you will be admitted. More information about application periods, how to apply and eligibility requirements can be found in the the course catalogue and on the application website:

Conditional admittance

If, at the time of assessment, you do not meet the eligibility requirements for the course you applied for, but it is likely that you will do so at the start of the course, you will usually be conditionally admitted. This means that you must contact us (studievagledare@fysik.su.se), and show that you meet the requirements in order to start the course. Before you talk to us, you cannot register for the course.

Registration

Registration for physics courses usually opens two weeks before the start of the course and must be completed no later than one week after the first lecture. Registration serves as a confirmation that you are taking the course, and this information is forwarded to, for example, CSN. You must also be registered for a course to be able to access the course page in the learning platform Athena and to be allowed to write the exam.

You can register for our courses via Ladok using your University account.
