Student life

Studying means much more than going to lectures and writing exams. In order for studies to be successful, they should also mean having fun.

There are many opportunities for you as a student at the Department of Physics to get involved. Whether you are interested in gaining influence over your education or having an interesting and active social life, both the Department of Physics and the university centrally offer a wealth of options. Read more about them below.

Fysikum's student council is part of Stockholm University's student union and consists of a group of students from Fysikum who from a student perspective work for the study environment and development of our education. FÄR have representatives in committees that work with everything from gender equality issues to PR activities and undergraduate education issues. As a student at Fysikum, your voice is important! Contact FÄR at far@fysik.su.se or visit the council’s Athena-page for more information on how you can gain influence and get involved in Fysikum's activities.

Quanta is the student association at Stockholm University for all students who study a physics-oriented program at the Department of Physics. This thus includes physics, astronomy, meteorology and the medical radiation physics program.

Quanta organizes various events about once a month. It can be anything from interesting lecture evenings to exciting experiments in the laboratory. If you want to meet other physics students, Quanta's meetings are for you! Keep an eye on Facebook (Quanta - Fysikernas Ämnesförening) and your student email. You can also contact Quanta at: quanta@fysik.su.se

The Natural Sciences faculty club (NF) is the equivalent of Quanta at the faculty level. NF is responsible for "Insparquen" which during the first three weeks of the academic year welcomes new students with activities, lectures and pubs right at the start of the autumn semester. NF organizes pubs, student theatre, Halloween parties and much more. Since NF is common to the faculty, you also meet students who study other science programmes at the university, for example biology or chemistry. As a student at Fysikum, you are welcome to get involved in NF and participate in activities. More information is available on NF's website.

Stockholm University Student Union (SUS) is a membership organization that represents all 70 000 students at Stockholm University. The Student Union has a government mandate through the Högskolelagen (Higher Education Act), to monitor and participate in the development of the educational programs and conditions for studying at our university. It quickly pays off to become a member. This is due to the student services and benefits you acquire when becoming a member. In addition, you also help supporting an active student participation and a vibrant campus. More information is found on the Student Union website.
