The Albanova campus

Fysikum has its premises in the AlbaNova campus area. A new campus area - Albano will soon connect AlbaNova with the university's main campus area.

The Department of Physics is located in the AlbaNova campus and shares premises with the Department of Astronomy and parts of the Royal Institute of Technology, KTH (which includes physics and biotechnologies). Nordita (the Nordic Institute for Theoretical Physics) is also located in the same area. The AlbaNova campus is located a short walk away from Stockholm University main campus and just a few minutes of subway ride away from Stockholm city centre. It is also located next to a national city park that offers nice walks in both summer and winter.

"Stockholm's most beautiful building"

The AlbaNova building was designed by the award-winning architect Henning Larsen and inaugurated by King Carl XVI Gustaf in 2001. The same year it was appointed "Stockholm's most beautiful building". The building has great lecture halls as well as small group rooms. There is also a lunch restaurant and a separate lunch room for students with access to microwave ovens.

New campus being built

Albano is a completely new campus being built that will link AlbaNova with Stockholm University's main campus Frescati. Several other departments at Stockholm University and other research centers will move into the new Albano areas, including the Department of Mathematics where our students often participate in some courses.

Thus, as a student at the Department of Physics, you will not only have direct access to modern premises in areas close to nature as well as the city centre, but also get close to the new future campus area with everything from teaching premises to student housing.
