Meet Jeehong Lee - one of our new student ambassadors

Jeehong is 23 years old, was born in Seoul and now lives in Björkhagen. He is in his fourth year of the Hospital Physics programme and looks forward to inspiring new students with posts on Fysikum's social media. His future goal is to become a professor/researcher and contribute to the improvement of public health through physical means.

"My name is Jeehong and I am 23 years old. I currently live alone in a student apartment in Björkhagen and moved here last August when I started my studies in Stockholm."

Using physical knowledge to cure diseases

Born in Seoul, Jeehong grew up in a small town with his grandparents, who taught him a lot about science in general and sparked his interest in physics.

"As a result, I have always been fascinated by exploring different areas of physics. One day I became particularly interested in the medical application of physics, i.e. hospital physics. I found it very fascinating that you can use physics knowledge to cure different diseases and save lives."

This led him to study medical physics at University College London for two years. He then decided to learn Swedish and continue his studies at Stockholm University, as many of the concepts in medical physics were developed in Stockholm.

Now in his fourth year of the hospital physics programme, he is very happy with his decision to come to Stockholm and continue his studies here. He thinks that all the teachers and classmates are so nice, and that it feels like a big family where you can share your thoughts freely and without worry.

Fysikum's student ambassador for social media

"I am really looking forward to inspiring new students to discover their passion for physics here with us and to encourage them to actively participate in the development of society."

In addition, I hope to contribute to an even safer environment at Fysikum, where students can support each other and seek help from both classmates and teachers when they face challenges in their studies or in student life in general.

His main interest in becoming a student ambassador was sparked by his desire to gain insight into what it is like to work in academia. This is because his future goal is to become a professor/researcher and contribute to the improvement of public health through physical means. As such, he plans to continue his studies as a PhD student here in Stockholm after completing the Hospital Physics programme.

Jeehong's advice to students

"If I may share some advice with other students, I think it is always best to dare to ask your teachers. There are no stupid questions, and all teachers at Fysikum endeavour to help students understand and deepen their understanding of the subject. Furthermore, I would also like to emphasise that setting high goals can be very rewarding. For example, if you aim to get an A on the exam, even if you make some big mistakes, it can still help you avoid failing. It is always worth striving for the best and developing through your challenges."
