Elin Holmén is a specialist nurse in psychiatry and also a PhD candidate at Karolinska Institutet. She has worked in the Stockholm needle and syringe program since it started in 2013. Her research focuses on Take-Home Naloxone and harm reduction among people who inject drugs.
The study Holmén will present in this seminar is called "All-cause mortality and overdose deaths among 4,192 people who inject drugs in Stockholm – a register-based cohort study". It investigates changes in mortality and causes of death among clients in the Stockholm needle and syringe program over a study period of 10-years (2013–2023). Specifically, it investigates whether access to Take-Home Naloxone was associated with a reduced risk of opioid overdose death.
The seminar is arranged by the Department of Public Health Sciences, Stockholm University.
