The Francophone Literary System - A Conversation about Pierre Halen’s Work
Seminar
Date: Monday 25 November 2024
Time: 15.00 – 16.30
Location: Online (Zoom) - Pre-registration is required*
An online seminar in French will be dedicated to discussing the book ”Approches du système littéraire francophone : Essais (1998-2024)” by Pierre Halen, with the author in attendance, recently published in the collection “Études Littéraires Africaines”.
This seminar will focus on themes such as mobility and transfer between center and periphery, the northern and southern spheres, and the complex interactions between different local fields. The goal is to understand to what extent a globally unequal system organizes the conditions that enable the circulation of authors and works within this Francophone space.
From 1997 to 2022, Pierre Halen was a professor of General and Comparative Literature at the University of Lorraine. He is currently the editor-in-chief of Études littéraires africaines and editor of the collection of the same name at Sépia Publishers, as well as the administrator of the documentation platform Mukanda (documentary resources on Central Africa). He is also a full member of the Académie Royale des Sciences d'Outre-Mer.
