Marta Garbelli´s "Spika-fika/nailing"
Today, we celebrated the “nailing” of Marta Garbelli’s doctoral thesis. This tradition, known as “spikning” in Swedish, marks the formal announcement of a PhD candidate’s upcoming defense.
Martas´s thesis investigates the microsyntax of articles and personal pronouns in the medieval varieties of Lombardy and Veneto (13th–15th century). The research underscores the complex linguistic landscape of medieval Italy, and argues that the evolution of articles and personal pronouns in these substandard varieties aligns with the predictions from grammaticalization theories, providing insights into the dynamics of linguistic change.
Marta Garbelli, PhD candidate in Italian Linguistics, defends her doctoral thesis: “La microsintassi degli antichi volgari settentrionali. Articoli e pronomi personali nella prosa lombarda e veneta nei secoli XIII-XV” next tuesday 11 June 2024 at 10.00 in Spelbomskan at Aula Magna - Stockholm University
