Research seminar with Maja Povrzanović Frykman "Academia and Cultural Production as Postmigrant Fields in Sweden"
Abstract:
The seminar will consist of two parts. In the first part, the theoretical and methodological underpinnings of the project Academia and Cultural Production as Postmigrant Fields in Sweden (RJ, 2021-24) will be presented. Instead of focusing on 'researching migrants,' the project shifted attention to the relationships in professional contexts characterized by complex entanglements with migration, mobility, and transnational practices. The reasons will be explained, for the choice of the postmigration as an analytical perspective that acknowledges antagonistic positions and struggles about participation and representation, but also new alliances that are not reduced to heritage and ‘cultural belonging’ in the two fields of our scrutiny. The second part of the seminar will be devoted to reviewing the main findings concerning the field of academia.
