Recycling guide for the Department of Sociology

Here is a guide on how to recycle correctly at the Department.

Location

  • In the small corridor next to the kitchen on both floors
  • In the mail room on floor 9
  • By the copy machine on floor 8

What is included?

  • newspapers
  • magazines
  • printouts, books, envelopes, Post-Its, etc. 
  • Large quantities of books (Talk to saemundur.grettisson@sociology.su.se)

What is not included 

  • labels
  • stickers
  • window envelopes, (See Household waste)
  • overheads
  • plastic packaging. (See Plastic)
     

Location 

  • In both kitchens
  • Bins in our offices
  • Bins in the restrooms

What is included? 

  • food waste
  • tissue paper
  • plastic and paper containers that cannot be cleaned
  • other burnable waste that cannot be sorted.

What is not included

  • waste that is not burnable, such as glass, cutlery, ceramic flower pots etc. (See Sortable waste)
  • cardboard and paper packaging

  • corrugated cardboard
  • paper packages like cereal, juice, milk and pizza cartons

If possible, remove tape and other plastic material attached to the cardboard.

What is not included

  • Dirty paper packages that cannot be cleaned (See household waste).

  • plastic bottles
  • jars
  • boxes
  • empty spray cans, etc.  
  • carrier bags and plastic sacks
  • packaging material
  • styrofoam    

What is not included

  • dirty plastic packages that cannot be cleaned
  • plastic cutlery
  • straws
  • washing-up brushes
  • plastic flowerpots (See Household waste)

  • colored and clear glass containers, sorted separately 
  • remove metallic lids (sorted separately)

Clean dirty containers before recycling.

What is not included

  • porcelain
  • window glass
  • drinking glasses etc. (See Sortable waste)
  • refundable bottles (See Refundable bottles and cans)

  • metal containers and other metal waste

  • Recycling stations outside shops and restaurants at SU

  • refundable bottles and cans

  • bottles and cans without the recycling symbol (See Plastic/metal)

  • metal waste such as nails, paper clips, etc. (Metal)

Sorted in two different fractions: 

  • low-energy bulbs
  • conventional bulbs (Including halogen and LED bulbs)

  • CDs and CD covers
  • porcelain
  • ceramics
  • window glass
  • fabric products
  • wood
