Recycling guide for the Department of Sociology
Here is a guide on how to recycle correctly at the Department.
Paper
Location
- In the small corridor next to the kitchen on both floors
- In the mail room on floor 9
- By the copy machine on floor 8
What is included?
- newspapers
- magazines
- printouts, books, envelopes, Post-Its, etc.
- Large quantities of books (Talk to saemundur.grettisson@sociology.su.se)
What is not included
- labels
- stickers
- window envelopes, (See Household waste)
- overheads
- plastic packaging. (See Plastic)
Household waste
Location
- In both kitchens
- Bins in our offices
- Bins in the restrooms
What is included?
- food waste
- tissue paper
- plastic and paper containers that cannot be cleaned
- other burnable waste that cannot be sorted.
What is not included
- waste that is not burnable, such as glass, cutlery, ceramic flower pots etc. (See Sortable waste)
- cardboard and paper packaging
Cardboard and paper packaging
Location
- In the small corridor next to the kitchen on both floors
What is included?
- corrugated cardboard
- paper packages like cereal, juice, milk and pizza cartons
If possible, remove tape and other plastic material attached to the cardboard.
What is not included
- Dirty paper packages that cannot be cleaned (See household waste).
Plastic
Location
- In both kitchens
- In the mail room on floor 9
What is included?
- plastic bottles
- jars
- boxes
- empty spray cans, etc.
- carrier bags and plastic sacks
- packaging material
- styrofoam
What is not included
- dirty plastic packages that cannot be cleaned
- plastic cutlery
- straws
- washing-up brushes
- plastic flowerpots (See Household waste)
Glass
Location
- In both kitchens
What is included?
- colored and clear glass containers, sorted separately
- remove metallic lids (sorted separately)
Clean dirty containers before recycling.
What is not included
- porcelain
- window glass
- drinking glasses etc. (See Sortable waste)
- refundable bottles (See Refundable bottles and cans)
Metal
Location
- In both kitchens
What is included?
- metal containers and other metal waste
Clean dirty containers before recycling.
What is not included
- electrical waste (Sorted separately)
- empty aerosol cans (See Sortable waste)
Refundable bottles and cans
Location
- Return to point of purchase
- Recycling stations outside shops and restaurants at SU
What is included?
- refundable bottles and cans
What is not included
- bottles and cans without the recycling symbol (See Plastic/metal)
Electrical waste
Location
- IT admins room (B914)
What is included?
- electrical waste
What is not included?
- metal waste such as nails, paper clips, etc. (Metal)
Batteries
Location
- In the mail room on floor 9
Light bulbs
Location
- In the mail room on floor 9
What is included?
Sorted in two different fractions:
- low-energy bulbs
- conventional bulbs (Including halogen and LED bulbs)
Sortable waste
Location

What is included?
Waste that cannot be sorted in other fractions, like:
- ring-binders
- CDs and CD covers
- porcelain
- ceramics
- window glass
- fabric products
- wood
- stone, etc.
What is not included
- Glass
