New co-workers at the Department of Sociology

The Department of Sociology welcomes five new researchers, one acting lecturer and two PhD students.

 

Stefano Cantalini, Researcher

Stefano joined the Department of Sociology and SUDA in March 2022. Stefano works in Gunnar Andersson's project about ongoing fertility decline in Sweden. His main research focus involves the interrelationships between family dynamics and social inequalities.

Lisa Harber-Aschan, Researcher

Lisa joined the Department of Sociology and SUDA in December 2021. She is a social epidemiologist with expertise in health inequalities, psychiatric epidemiology, and community health. Her work examines social determinants of health and service use over the life-course. She will also work in Ben Wilson’s ERC project A Better Life for the Children of Exile: Intergenerational Adaptation of the Descendants of Refugees.

Giampiero Passaretta, Researcher

Giampiero joined the Department of Sociology and SUDA in January 2022. His research focuses on the formation and the evolution of education and labour market inequalities over the life course. He is enrolled in a project organized by Siddartha Aradhya.

Elena Pupaza, Researcher

Elena joined the Department of Sociology and SUDA in December 2021. She will work in Ben Wilson’s ERC project “A Better Life for the Children of Exile: Intergenerational Adaptation of the Descendants of Refugees”. Her broader research focuses primarily on immigrant integration and understanding how migrants shape their local communities.

Maria Tyrberg, Researcher

Maria joined the Department of Sociology as a postdoctoral researcher in January 2022. She is also working at the Department of Political Science, University of Gothenburg. Her research interests include radical right-wing parties, political behaviour, contextual effects, migration and integration. She is currently involved in Jens Rydgren's project about working class voter support for the populist radical right.

Eero Carrol, Acting Lecturer

Eero is an Acting lecturer since November 2021 and tutors BA thesis papers at the department. His research interests include welfare state development, comparative democratization and authoritarianism, public finance, public administration, and comparative research on policy interventions against human rights abuses.

Benson John, PhD student

Benson John is active with doctoral research at the Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research, MPIDR. He is enrolled as PhD student in Sociological Demography at the department with funding from the MPIDR. His PhD research focusses on fertility change in the context of sub-Saharan Africa and the role of family complexities in such change.

Konstantin Kazenin, PhD student

Konstantin joined the Department of Sociology and SUDA in November 2021. Konstantin’s main research interests include demographic trends in the Caucasus and Central Asia, mainly related to fertility and impact of migration on family formation. At the department, he will focus on fertility of migrants in a comparative context. His research project concerns son preference as a factor influencing fertility behavior in Central Asia and the way migration transforms such processes.
