Centres and other units
The Department of Swedish Language and Multilingualism (Svefler) consists of the units Centre for Research on Bilingualism, The Institute of Interpreting and Translation Studies (TÖI), Swedish and Scandinavian Languages, and Swedish as a Foreign Language.
The Centre for Research on Bilingualism and The Institute of Interpreting and Translation Studies have their own budgets, statutes, boards and leadership, but share administration with the department. Their respective budgets, annual accounts, recruitments and course issues need to be approved by the department board.
Centre for Research on Bilingualism
We do research on bilingualism and multilingualism and provide courses at basic level, advanced level and postgraduate level. Second language and bilingualism is one of Stockholm University's leading research areas.

Institute of Interpreting and Translation Studies (TÖI)
Swedish and Scandinavian Languages
We do research on and teach about Swedish in the past as well as in our time, and we also teach Danish and Norwegian.
Swedish as a Foreign Language
We provide language skills training courses in Swedish as a foreign language, Swedish for second language speakers and international students at Stockholm University. We also provide special courses for international employees.
We also provide Tisus, which is a qualifying test in Swedish for university and college studies in Sweden. It is given twice a year in several places in Sweden and abroad.
