Islam in the Swedish socio-cultural and educational context (7.5 credits)

This course provides knowledge on issues of religious diversity in school with a focus on Islam.

In the course, Islam is presented as a cultural component, using Sweden and the Swedish school system as an example. Different interpretations and perspectives are presented and related to both the school's teaching and the situation of Muslims in Swedish society. Issues related to Islamophobia, extremism and the school's democratic mission are discussed and problematized.

Central themes that are also touched upon are equality issues, religion and power, freedom of religion issues and what the presence of different religious groups means for the school as an institution.

  • There will be teaching on campus the first two weeks of June, thereafter study period until online examination in August.

Teaching oral and written English proficiency (7.5 credits)

Elever samarbetar i skolan

In this web-based course you will develop your ability to work communicatively with grammar and pronunciation in your teaching at different school levels.

The course is for people who are looking to teach English as a foreign language or second language, not for those who are teaching English to native speakers. You will get the opportunity to improve your own pronunciation and grammar, but the course focuses on how to use Communicative Language Teaching to teach pronunciation and grammar.

You will get to know some common "problem areas" in English. We will work systematically with English grammar and pronunciation and you will get to know how to teach these to different age groups.

  • As this is a distance course, you need a computer with an internet connection and webcam as well as a headset with microphone in order to participate.

Teaching vocabulary and fluency development in English and modern languages (7.5 credits)

In this summer course, you'll learn how to use activities and strategies to develop vocabulary and fluency in English or other languages. You will also gain insights into how teachers can equip students for continued independent language proficiency development in the target language.

During the course, you work with different strategies for both planned (intentional) and unplanned (incidental) further development of your own vocabulary in the target language, as well as with structured activities which aim to further develop your (and eventually your students') receptive and productive fluency in speech and writing.

  • The teaching consists of online lectures, so you need a computer with an internet connection and webcam as well as a headset with microphone in order to participate in the course.
