Benita Nel comes from South Africa and is affiliated with the University of the Western Cape at the southern part of South Africa. She's a senior lecturer in the School of Science and Mathematics in the Faculty of Education. And she has been staying here for two weeks in February, from the 6-17th.

What is the purpose of your stay here in Sweden at the Department of Teaching and Learning?

– I am currently on sabbatical leave. I am here to explore what research overlap with my colleagues here in Stockholm University's Mathematics Education. Lisa Österling is hosting me here.

– I presented my research at a seminar on Friday 10 February. The title was: The influence of Video Stimulated Recall as an in-house Mathematics professional development tool for joint reflection. I am observing classes on Mathematics Education here at the university as well as I observe Mathematics classes at a nearby secondary school. My research is on Mathematics teacher professional development where videos are used as a tool to assist the teachers with reflection.

– Before I came here, I had a fruitful meeting with Kicki Skog at the end of January 2023 in South Africa where deliberations already started. When presenting at the seminar, there were numerous connections identified that overlap with my interest and that of other colleagues and doctoral student here. This will be further explored in the future.
