Project grant by SUS to PhD Council in 2023 for a writing retreat

The PhD Student Council Board of 2023 at the Department of Teaching and Learning has been granted almost SEK 10,000 to create a conducive environment for scholarly writing. The purpose of the activity was to promote collaboration between the departments PhD students and support them in their continued work.

A total of 11 PhD students from different disciplines participated in the writing session, and all were equally motivated to advance their research by sharpening their writing skills. Despite the challenges of coordinating each other in different groupings and some other practicalities, the activity was very successful.

The "retreat" turned out to contribute to highly productive writing, thanks to the structured format and supportive environment. And the participants expressed a great interest in organizing similar activities in futures semesters.

Participants appreciated the following component of the retreat:

  • Welcome breakfast to promote collaboration and relationships
  • When participants shared goals and set a supportive tone
  • The Pomodoro technique to get structured writing sessions
  • Lunch walk, afternoon coffee for relaxation and reflection
  • Joint reflection to discuss progress and the organization of the activity

With this funding from 2023, Harita, the former council chair, officially handed over leadership responsibilities to the newly elected co-chairs, Bruna and Beatrice, by the execution of funding in 2024. The shift marks a crucial juncture in the council's journey as it looks forward to a fresh phase. Bruna and Beatrice have embraced their roles with a commitment to the community. Their collaborative leadership ensures innovative, fresh perspectives to a community-focused approach in the council.
