Honorary doctor awarded Prize in Economic Sciences
Philippe Aghion is one of three researchers awarded the Prize in Economic Sciences. He is also honorary doctorate at Stockholm University and has been a visiting professor here.
Diabetes is one of the fastest-growing diseases in the world. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the number of people living with the condition has quadrupled globally since the 1980s. Several major research projects at Stockholm University are exploring fundamental factors that may help prevent or even reverse diabetes, including approaches that aim to activate the body’s own immune system.
EU fisheries ministers decided on higher catch quotas (TACs) than the Commission had proposed in the Baltic Sea next year. The TAC for Gulf of Bothnia herring was reduced, but not enough to comply with EU regulations. ‘It is remarkable that the Council is not complying with its own legislation,’ says Sara Söderström, fisheries researcher at the Baltic Sea Centre.
