Responsible management of intangible assets

Open science emphasizes the sharing of knowledge, results, and tools as early and widely as possible, with a principle of being "as open as possible, as closed as necessary".

IP management shall balance transparency with protection as needed for utilization, collaboration with external parties, and long-term financing.

Intangible assets (e.g. copyrights, patents, trademarks, designs, databases and know-how) must be identified at an early stage and managed in a way that protects the interests of both the University and individual researchers. The innovation office supports you in identifying an IP strategy relevant to your goals.

Utilization and commercialisation

Results valuable for utilization and commercialisation should be assessed early. Patent applications, trademark registrations, and other safeguards should be initiated before results are published or in another way communicated.

Rights, obligations and revenue distribution must be clearly regulated in agreements and internal guidelines, in interaction with other stakeholders. When collaborating with companies, public actors or other higher education institutions, IP issues must be regulated in agreements that:

• Defines ownership of background and resulting IP.
• Regulates licenses, rights of use, and publicity.
• Sets out principles for revenue distribution and continued development.
