Accommodation for visiting researchers and doctoral students
Stockholm University offers a limited number of furnished accommodation options for international visiting researchers and doctoral students. On this page, you can find out who can apply, how the application process works, what to consider before moving in, and where to look for housing on your own.
University housing is limited and often in high demand. We recommend that you apply as soon as possible and, at the same time, start looking for housing through other channels in Stockholm.
Who can apply
You are eligible to apply if all of the following apply:
- You are an international visiting researcher or doctoral student.
- You are affiliated with a department at Stockholm University.
- Your stay is at least three months.
- You are conducting research at 50 per cent of full time or more.
How to apply
Fill in the application form and include
- your personal details
- at least five accommodation preferences
- a valid photo ID
- a signed Certificate for accommodation (download the template) pdf, 115.8 kB.
Your application will be placed in the housing queue once all required documents have been submitted. Accommodation is offered based on availability.
Staying with your spouse or family
You are welcome to stay with your spouse or family in any accommodation that is not marked as shared in the preference selection list.
Remember to include information about your spouse or family members in your application.
Waiting time for a housing offer
Waiting times vary. Based on previous application periods, it usually takes 2–6 months from submitting your application to receiving an offer.
Waiting times depend on factors such as housing area, rent level and time of year. Your chances are generally higher if you plan to move in during April–July or at the end of the year. Occasionally, short-notice vacancies also become available.
University accommodation areas
All accommodation areas listed below are managed by the Housing Office at Stockholm University. The rent includes heating, cold and hot water, broadband and electricity. All rooms are furnished.
