Departure information

This page explains what you need to do before moving out of your accommodation. Follow the checklist to make sure your accomodation is clean, your key is returned, and everything is in order.

Your accommodation must be clean and in good condition when you move out. This checklist helps you prepare the space for the next student or researcher – clean, welcoming and ready to use.

Cleaning checklist

We recommend starting your cleaning at least one week before departure to avoid any last-minute stress.

  • Sweep and mop all floors, including baseboards and around sockets.
  • Clean doors, including frames and tops.
  • Wipe down all furniture, and move it to clean underneath and behind.
  • Wipe radiators on all sides.
  • Wash windows, including frames and sills.
  • Clean lampshades and replace broken light bulbs.
  • Check that the smoke alarm works.

  • Remove hair and debris from the shower drain.
  • Clean walls and tiles.
  • Clean the toilet and sink, inside and outside.
  • Wipe pipes under the sink and behind the toilet.
  • Polish the mirror.
  • Remove limescale and clean shower door, bathtub or curtain.
  • Clean the ventilation cover.

  • Remove all food, including spices, from fridge and freezer.
  • Clean fridge and freezer inside and outside.
  • Defrost the freezer. Catch all defrost water to prevent water damage.
  • Important: Leave both fridge and freezer switched on.
  • Clean the stovetop, oven, baking trays, racks and handles.
  • Remove and clean the kitchen fan filter.
  • Wipe all kitchen cabinets and shelves.
  • Clean the sink, drain and countertops.
  • Clean the ventilation cover.

  • All common areas must be as clean as the rest of the apartment.
  • Clean according to the checklist above.

  • Pack all your belongings—you won’t be able to re-enter once you return the key.
  • Dispose of all food in the correct containers.
  • Use designated disposal areas for belongings you no longer want.
  • Do not leave anything in hallways or stairwells—this is a fire hazard.

You may leave behind clean and undamaged bedding, cleaning supplies and functional internet cables and routers.

  • Do a final walk-through to check that everything is clean and nothing is left behind.
  • Check drawers, cupboards, and the tops of bookcases and wardrobes.
  • Take photos of the cleaned rooms to document the condition.

Key return

Follow the key return instructions carefully. Late or incorrect returns may result in fines, up to SEK 5,000.

  1. Remove all personal keys. Any private keys returned by mistake will be discarded.
  2. Report damaged or broken keyrings in advance. If not reported, a replacement fee for all keys may be charged.
  3. Follow the instructions in the departure letter and tenancy agreement regarding the return deadline and procedure.
  4. Return the keys using the key box outside entrance D of Södra huset (to the left of the revolving door). Only the keyring and keys should be placed in the box — no other items.
