Home insurance
Taking out home insurance (hemförsäkring) is strongly recommended during a stay in Sweden. Home insurance is mandatory for tenants living in housing provided by Stockholm University. The insurance must cover the entire period of the lease.
Home insurance is also recommended when renting on the private market, including second-hand rentals and shared flats.
How to get home insurance
Tenants with a Swedish personal identity number (personnummer) can take out home insurance through most Swedish insurance providers.
Tenants without a personal identity number may find it more difficult to get insurance. However, some Swedish companies offer home insurance for international students and researchers without requiring one. The list below includes contact information for insurance companies known to provide this type of coverage.
Insurance companies
Stockholm University only shares information provided by these companies. Tenants are responsible for contacting the insurance provider directly to arrange coverage.
