Over one thousand international masters and exchange students were accepted to study at the University for the autumn 2012 term. On the 28 August, the majority came to Orientation Day, officially starting their academic journey at the University and helping bring Aula Magna to near full capacity.
Orientation Day began with Kåre Bremer, the University’s outgoing Vice-Chancellor, welcoming students. Among other things, Kåre talked about the nature of academic debate in Sweden and iterated what an essential component international students are in the University’s activities.
The compere for Orientation Day, Ronald Trumpf Nordqvist from the University’s International Office, followed Kåre with a presentation on Stockholm University. Ronald presented the University’s development, organisation, personnel, research and studies, as well as information about life at the University, how to stay in touch with events through social media and even took time to debunk myths and talk about ‘the real Sweden’.
Ronald’s presentation was followed by presentations from several other speakers, including internally from the University’s Student Union, as well as externally from the Swedish Institute. The presentations covered topics such as; student email accounts, health care, the library, language courses, travel and security. All of the presentations can be downloaded.
