Since 2013, Sara Danius has been a member of the Swedish Academy. When she succeeds Peter Englund on 1 June 2015 as Permanent Secretary, she will be the first woman to hold the position at the Swedish Academy which awards the Nobel Prize in Literature each year..

In an interview with Swedish newspaper DN, she says that it’s a big thing to be the first woman as Permanent Secretary and as such she hopes that she will be able to be a role model.

Sara Danius has become known as an essayist and cultural writer in DN. In February 2014 she was awarded the DN's critics price Lagercrantzen. Her latest book is "Husmoderns död och andra texter".

She has a doctorate from both Duke University in the United States, where she has lived for ten years, and Uppsala University, Sweden.
