Detailed information for other distinguished guests

Stockholm University arranges a combined ceremony for the conferment of doctoral degrees and inauguration of new professors on Friday 25th September 2020. The ceremony will take place at 5 p.m. in the Blue Hall of the Stockholm City Hall and will be followed by a banquet in the Gold Hall and dancing in the Blue Hall.

The ceremony and the banquet

The ceremony will take place at 5 p.m. on Friday 25 September in the Blue Hall of the Stockholm City Hall. The banquet will be served around 8 p.m. in the Gold Hall followed by ball room dancing in the Blue Hall.

Honorary doctorates, jubilee doctors, recipients of the Award for Good Teaching and the Stockholm University Gold Medal and other distinguished guests are invited with partner to the ceremony and the following banquet, free of charge.

Academic advisors will receive a personal invitation for the ceremony and banquet only if their particular student is attending the conferment ceremony. The subsidized banquet ticket for the advisor is 900 SEK.

Registration for the ceremony and the following banquet will open here when the invitations have been sent, in June.

Our recommendation is that small children should not attend the conferment ceremony.

Formal dress is required at the conferment ceremony and the banquet. This may be either white tie and tails with a white vest or an evening gown. Orders/medallions may be worn. An alternative may be to wear the national costume. There are no dress requirements for guests who will only attend the ceremony, but smart casual is appreciated.

An obligatory rehearsal for honorary doctors, jubilee doctors, new doctors and new professors will take place in the Blue Hall at the City Hall at 4.00 P.M. the day before the conferment ceremony, i.e. Thursday 26 September 2019. This usually takes about 1 1/2 hours.

Insignia presented during the ceremony

During the ceremony proceedings honorary doctorates will be presented with a doctoral hat (Faculty of Law) or a laurel wreath (the other faculties) as well as a diploma and a doctoral ring. Jubilee doctors receive a laurel wreath and a diploma. The organization committee will order the insignia.

Photography and live broadcast

Professional photographers will be at hand to take pictures during the entire ceremony. A link to the photos will be sent within two weeks after the ceremony to the ones participating in the ceremony.

The ceremony is broadcast live on and the film will also later be found at the same web page.
