QS by Subject

Stockholm University is the best in Sweden within six subjects: Linguistics, Philosophy, Earth & Marine Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Social Policy & Administration and Sociology. Stockholm University is also in a leading position together with another Swedish university within six other subjects: Education & Training, Law, Modern Languages, Anthropology, Communication & Media Studies, English Language & Literature.

Stockholm University ranks among top 50 in the world within five subjects: Environmental Sciences (31), Social Policy & Administration (36), Linguistics (41), Sociology (41) and Geography (48).

The QS Rankings are published annually by the British firm Quacquarelli Symonds (QS).

The ranking is compiled to help prospective students identify the leading universities in a particular subject. Research citations, along with the results of major global surveys of employers and academics are used to rank universities.
Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) is the best university in the world for a dozen subjects in this year’s QS World University Rankings by Subject, followed by Harvard University and the University of Oxford.
