The Shanghai Ranking, which measures the quality of research according to eight different indicators, is generally viewed as one of the world´s three most important university rankings, along side QS World University Rankings and Times Higher Education World University Rankings. By earning a fifth place in the new subject Environmental Science & Engineering Stockholm University becomes the only Swedish university in the top 20 in any subject. There are a total of seven subjects.

“Ranking fifth in Environmental Science & Engineering is a tremendous recognition of the world class research environment we´ve been able to create here”, says Michael McLachlan, professor and head of the Department of Environmental Science and Analytical Chemistry.

Top four in Environmental Science & Engineering is Stanford at 737 points, University of Wageningen (Netherlands) at 730 points, Berkeley, 723 points and Harvard, 674 points. Stockholm scores 655 followed by Oxford at 627 points.
