Impact in this case is indicated by the proportion of the publications of a university that, compared with other publications in the same field and in the same year, belong to the top 10% most frequently cited, whilst international collaboration is defined by the proportion of the publications of a university that have been co-authored by two or more countries.
 
Stockholm University also maintains its number one position as compared to other universities in Sweden in regards to a number of other important indicators.
 
During the past year, the Leiden ranking system has changed the way it ranks universities. This development may to some extent have caused the abrupt change in Stockholm University’s placement in the overall ranking, now outside of the top 100, at 141, in sharp contrast to previous years: placed 79 in 2010 and 78 in 2012.
 
CWTS Leiden Ranking 2013
The CWTS Leiden Ranking 2013 measures the scientific performance of 500 major universities worldwide. Using a range of bibliometric indicators, the ranking aims to provide accurate measurements of the scientific impact of universities and of universities’ involvement in scientific collaboration. The CWTS Leiden Ranking 2013 is based on Web of Science indexed publications from the period 2008–2011.
