Paul Anastas is the director of the Center for Green Chemistry and Green Engineering at Yale University in the USA. He is one of the founders of green chemistry and participated in the formulation of the principles followed to evaluate the environmental impact of chemical processes. He is an advocate of using green methods in chemical synthesis.

Paul Anastas is being hosted by the departments of Biochemistry and Biophysics, Materials and Environmental Chemistry and Organic Chemistry at Stockholm University. The overall purpose of the stay is to develop the use of raw forest materials as a source as a raw material for the chemicals industry, such as in the manufacture of plastics.

The motivation for the decision states that this work potentially has a great significance and is an excellent link for activities at the hosting departments. “Professor Anastas’ background in the depolymerisation of biomass works well and synergy effects can be expected in relation to his strong background in legislation and green chemistry in general”.
