Inauguration of professors and conferment of doctoral degrees 2025

The inauguration of professors and the doctoral conferment are academic traditions dating back to the Middle Ages. At the festive ceremony in Stockholm City Hall, new professors are installed in office and new doctors are conferred with a doctoral hat or a laurel wreath.

The Inauguration of New Professors

The professorial inauguration, or installation, is the part of the solemn ceremony in the City Hall where the newly appointed professors (appointed during the period 1 July 2024 - 30 June 2025), are welcomed and installed in office by the President, while their various subject areas are highlighted.

The Conferment of Doctoral Degrees

The doctors who have defended their theses and received their doctoral degrees at the University (during the period 1 July 2024 - 30 June 2025) are celebrated in a solemn form.

The ceremony will be live broadcasted.
