Questions and answers

Question:

Hey Christian!

I'm a final year physics bachelors student and I had several questions about the astronomy masters program and also about the university in general. 1) What kind of scholarships are offered and how much of the tuition fees would be covered? 2) What could the approx monthly financial expense? 3) Where can I find a prospectus for the program?

Shyam

Answer:

Hej Shyam!

Thank you for your questions. I'm glad to hear you are considering coming to Stockholm University. To address your first question there are several scholarships that are offered, I have provided links to them and a wealth of other information below. The scholarship that is likely most relevant for you is the Stockholm University Scholarship Scheme. This covers all tuition expenses and also helps find housing for your first year of the masters program (though you are required to pay the monthly rental fee). This is aimed at exceptional students from outside the EU. In fact this was the scholarship I received that allowed me to attend Stockholm University for my masters in astronomy.

Regarding your second question, this depends on your own life style. Stockholm is not a cheap city to live in, but it is possible to save money in many ways. Excluding tuition costs, I would expect that living in Stockholm would cost approximately $1000 USD per month. This would cover renting a room, modest food expenses, and public transport with some left over for incidental costs.

To learn more about the Astronomy program, visit this link. It should have the information you are looking for about the masters degree. Please let me know if you have any further questions and best of luck!

Christian
