The Bolin Centre for Climate Research and the Department of Meteorology (MISU) at Stockholm University are looking for a Scientific Programmer with IT Responsibilities to join our dynamic, international research environment in computational climate science. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting high-performance climate research at the Bolin Centre, and in maintaining MISU’s IT infrastructure.

In this full-time, 12-month fixed-term position, you will combine advanced user support for computationally intensive climate research with research-oriented IT tasks. About half of your time will be devoted to supporting researchers within the Bolin Centre, particularly with computational resources, climate modelling tools and data management, while the remaining part will involve responsibility for the IT environment at MISU.

Our climate research community spans a wide range of modelling and observational work across the atmosphere and ocean, from local to global scales, and uses cutting-edge approaches including AI and machine learning. The role offers a unique opportunity to contribute directly to enabling this research while developing your own technical and scientific skills.

  • What we are looking for:
A PhD in a relevant subject and strong experience with high-performance computing (HPC).
  • Excellent technical skills across Linux, macOS, and Windows systems, and familiarity with system administration, networking and data security.
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative, proactive mindset.
  • Proficiency in Swedish and English is required.

Even if you do not meet every qualification, we encourage you to apply — personal qualities and motivation are highly valued in this recruitment.
What we offer

You will be part of a collaborative, multidisciplinary research environment tied to both the Bolin Centre and MISU, with opportunities for professional growth and engagement with cutting-edge climate research. The Department is based on the Frescati campus in Stockholm’s Royal National City Park, offering a supportive workplace and flexible remote work options after an introductory period.

Join us and contribute to world-class climate research at the intersection of science and technology!
