Bolin Days

The Bolin Days is our annual internal conference for – and by – our Bolin Centre members. During these days, new climate science results are presented and we meet each other to exchange ideas, share our experiences and find new inspiration.
You can take part in a set of cross-disciplinary sessions organized by our Research themes leaders. You have the opportunity to meet our External Science Advisory Group, there is a poster exhibition and as usual, a poster competition for PhD student.

Poster Competition and Exhibitions 2024

During the 16th edition of our annual Bolin Days conference, almost 60 participants presented their posters in the foyer of Aula Magna as part of the poster competition and exhibition.

Each poster had at least one judge assigned from the External Science Advisory Group (ESAG) and/or the Science Advisory Group (SAG), you can read more about the members of these groups here. Differently from last year, all participants of the Bolin Days were also invited to evaluate the posters by scanning a QR code placed by each poster. Congratulations to Thomas Hocking, Julia Asplund, and Abigail Robinson!

Poster Competition and Exhibitions 2023

During the 15th edition of the annual internal conference the Bolin Days, over 50 participants brought their posters to the foyer of Aula Magna for the poster competition and exhibition.

Attendees then got the opportunity to interact with the authors of the posters, as well as experience the breadth of climate science that the Bolin Centre members possesses. On November 29th, a jury made up of our External Science Advisory Group (ESAG) together with the directors and members of the Science Advisory Group (SAG) announced the winners – congratulations to Sonja Gindorf, Jamie Barnett, and Caroline Greiser!

Bert Bolin Climate Lectures

Bert Bolin Climate Lectures for Climate Research is named in honour of Professor Bert Bolin, former Professor of Meteorology at Stockholm University. Every year, a distinguished Bert Bolin Climate Lecturer is invited to Stockholm to hold a popular science lecture and a science seminar at the Bolin Centre for Climate Research.

Bert Bolin was a leader in climate and carbon cycle research and one of the founders of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) which received the Nobel Peace Prize in 2007. The Faculty of Science at Stockholm University established the annual Bert Bolin Climate Lecture in 2008, shortly after Bert Bolin had passed away.

Swedish Climate Symposium

The Swedish Climate Symposium was held for the first time in 2022 in Norrköping, in collaboration with the Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute (SMHI) and the strategic research areas BECC and MERGE at Lund University. The symposium has been organized every second year since then. Learn more about previous and upcoming symposia on the event website below.

Swedish Biodiversity Symposium

The Swedish Biodiversity Symposium is an interdisciplinary conference that brings together experts and stakeholders in biodiversity to promote positive developments in the field. The symposium was held for the first time in autumn 2025 in Gothenburg, with the main organisers being the strategic research area BECC, the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency, the SLU Centre for Biological Diversity, and the Gothenburg Global Biodiversity Centre. ForskarFredag (European Researchers’ Night)

ForskarFredag is part of the science festival European Researchers’ Night and Researchers at Schools, with events taking place across Europe during the last weekend of September each year. ForskarFredag serves as a unique opportunity for researchers to inspire and engage younger generations, share their knowledge and passion for science, and spark interest in education and research.

ForskarFredag 2025–2022

Climate Festival

The Climate Festival was the Bolin Centre’s largest public event and was held annually between 2017 and 2021. During the festival, the interested public had the opportunity to meet our climate researchers and learn more about climate change and what we can do about it. In 2020 and 2021, the Climate Festival was held digitally due to the circumstances at the time; you can read more via the link below. In 2022, the Bolin Centre revised its approach to public and school outreach. Instead of organising the Climate Festival, we began participating in the national science festival ForskarFredag, which you can read more about further up on this page.
