Meet Christina, MSc student

Christina is an MSc student.

What was your background before starting the programme?
I studied Molecular Biology and Genetics in Greece and since the programme included a few courses in neurobiology and chemistry I had some basic knowledge related to the field the programme specializes at.

Why did you choose the MSc in Neurochemistry with Molecular Neurobiology?
From the beginning of my bachelor’s studies, I knew that I wanted to pursue a research career in Neuroscience. Given that my academic background was focused on the molecular level, I knew that I wanted to continue in this direction. I chose this programme specifically because I was intrigued by its study plan. The courses provided were exactly what I needed to expand my knowledge in the field of neuroscience. They covered a wide range of topics, including the development and function of the nervous system, the models and methods used in research, and various diseases related to the nervous system. Furthermore, the programme’s flexibility in offering three different duration options for the master’s thesis was a major advantage. This structure allows students to organise their second year according to their needs.

What have you enjoyed or appreciated most about the programme so far?
I really appreciated the option of conducting my master thesis for an entire academic year as it provides me with plenty of time to work on an extended research project, learn a wide range of techniques, and gain a lot of hands-on experience.

I really enjoyed the structure of the courses. In addition to the lectures, which covered both exciting and relevant topics, the programme includes laboratory exercises, journal clubs, and project-based learning. I believe this combination is very important because it manages to maintain the students’ attention while also helping them develop several skills that will be useful in their future careers.

I am also very grateful for the professors of the programme. They are great teachers with love and enthusiasm about what they do. They have incredible knowledge and experience which they are more than happy to pass down to the students. They are very approachable and supportive and they are always willing to help and advise the students.

What are your plans after graduation, or what do you hope to do next?
After completing the Master's program, I plan to continue my academic journey by pursuing a PhD. I would be thrilled to secure a PhD position in Sweden, particularly in Stockholm, as I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here.
