At the Department of Astronomy new instruments are being developed to be used on telescopes located at international observatories.

Instrument development for the Swedish Solar Telescope (SST)

Instrument development at the department effort is mainly focused on the Swedish Solar Telescope.

The AlbaNova telescope

The installation of a new telescope at AlbaNova University Centre is currently ongoing. The telescope will be used by the Department of Astronomy for education, but also by the Quantum Information and Quantum Optics research group at Fysikum for research in quantum communication.

The department also has a small heliostat + telescope for solar observations: teaching and tests.

The department is also involved in different projects to build instruments for large ground-based telescopes, such as the upcoming Extremely Large Telescope (ELT) which is under construction in Chile.

ESO's ELT

We were also involved in the construction of instruments for multiple space telescopes, primarily in large ESA/NASA projects, such as the James Webb Space Telescope and the exo-planet projects Cheops and Plato.
