History of the Department of Child and Youh Studies

The Department of Child and Youth Studies was founded in 2008 after a merger of the Stockholm School of Education and Stockholm University.
2023-08-01: Anna Westberg Broström takes over as Head of department and Rickard Jonsson as Deputy head of department.
2019-06-03: The department is moving to new premises on Frescati backe, a four-story building. This means that all four departments will now be in the same building.

2017-08-01: Mats Börjesson takes over as head of department and Anne-Li Lindgren as Deputy head of department.
2013-04-01: Nihad Bunar takes over as Deputy Head of Department.
2012-12-20: The Section of School-age educare moves from Campus Konradsberg to Frescati garden.
2012-07-01: The Section of School-age educare (now within the Department of Child and Youth Studies) is added from the Department of Educational Sciences with a focus on technical, aesthetic and practical knowledge traditions.
2011-08-01: Ann-Christin Cederborg takes over as Head of department. Gunnar Åsén takes over as Deputy Head of Department.
2011-01-01: The department changes its name to the Department of Child and Youth Studies.
2011-01-01: The section for Early Childhood Education is added from the Department of Didactics and Pedagogical Work (DoPA). DoPA is closed down. The section for Early Childhood Education moves from Campus Konradsberg to Frescati hage.
2010-06-10: Early Childhood Education was established as a subject in education at doctoral level by the Faculty Board of Social Sciences at Stockholm University.
2010-08-01: Ann-Christin Cederborg takes office as Deputy head of department.
2009: The department is moving from Campus Konradsberg to Frescati hage.
2008-07-01: Karin Aronsson takes over as Head of department.
The Department is moving within Campus Konradsberg.
Gunilla Preisler takes over as Head of department and Peg Lindstrand takes over as Deputy head of department. Previously, Child and Youth Studies belonged to the Stockholm University College of Education, Department of Individual, External and Learning.
The Center for the studies of children´s culture moves to the Department of Child and Youth Studies from the Department of History, Center for the History of Child Cultural Research.
2008:The Department of Child and Youth Studies is established at Stockholm University.
2007-12-13: Child and youth science will be a main area at the Faculty of Social Sciences at Stockholm University.
2004: September: Child and Youth Studies is established as a subject in the doctoral program at the Faculty of Social Sciences at Stockholm University.
1956: The Stockholm University of Education starts.
1878: Stockholm University is formed. History of Stockholm University.
