Tanja Schult was a visiting researcher at Österreichische Akademie der Wissenschaften in Vienna during 2021–2022. During this time she conducted research on how monuments are received. Particular attention was directed toward Françoise Schein's Wiener Bankett der Menschenrechte und ihrer HüterInnen, one of the main actors in her forthcoming book.

Those who wish to participate in the seminar are asked to read parts of the book manuscript in advance. Following an introductory lecture presenting the aims of the book, the discussion will focus primarily on Schein’s Bankett der Menschenrechte, one of the book’s three case studies, but will also address general questions of democratic monument culture.

Registration by no later than December 8 to tanja.schult@arthistory.su.se

The seminar is aimed at everyone interested in public art and, above all, monument culture. It also hopes for active participation from the institutions involved in the realization of the table or responsible for its preservation.

Time: 10 December 2025, 09:00–12:45.
Venue: Ahnensaal Bundesdenkmalamt
