We address fundamental biological problems in terrestrial as well as marine environments, both locally and globally.

Our programmes and courses

We offer a wide range of courses on all levels, including Bachelor’s, Master’s and PhD. All undergraduate programs and courses in biology are organized and managed by the Department of Biology Education (BIG).

Askö laboratory

A national infrastructure resource open for anyone who wants to conduct research, environmental monitoring, arrange courses or host research meetings and workshops related to the sea.

Bolin Centre for Climate Research

A collaboration between Stockholm University, KTH and SMHI, where many researchers at the department are active members of the centre.

Baltic Sea Centre

Researchers, environmental analysts and communicators collaborate to increase knowledge about the sea support marine management of various environmental challenges.
