Organisation
We have over 100 employees at the Department of Ecology, Environment and Plant Sciences, working with tasks related to research, education and administration. On this page, you will find information about how the department is managed and organised.
Management
Each teacher (docent, associate professor, professor, or equivalent) leads their own research and, when applicable, their research group. These individuals have workplace environment responsibility for their research group. At the department, there is also an accredited chemical/biological laboratory called Marine Ecology Laboratory (MEL) that works on assignments related to national and regional environmental monitoring. This operation is currently led by one manager, Jakob Walve.
The department is led by a Head of Department, who is appointed for three years at a time.
The Department Board
The Department Board has responsibility for primarily the budget of the department and the admission of PhD-students. The members of the Department Board are elected for a three-year term. The Head of Department and the Deputy Head of Department are permanent members.
Research Education Committee
The Research Education Committee handles matters related to co-funding of doctoral positions, the doctoral environment, doctoral courses, dissertations, and governing documents for doctoral education.
