Geologiska föreningens De Geer Prize

The 2024 De Geer Prize is awarded to Barbara Wohlfarth in recognition of her long and impressive career in Quaternary sciences. Her broad research focus includes the Late Glacial development in Scandinavia, the Swedish varve chronology, and the enigmatic Marine Isotope Stage 3.

Barbara Wohlfarth has been a professor of Quaternary Geology at Stockholm University since 2002 and joined the Department of Geological Sciences in 2007. She has since expanded the Marine Geology program to include lacustrine environments.

During this time, she has also served as Dean of the Section for Earth and Environmental Sciences at Stockholm University. Wohlfarth has been a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences since 2012 and has, among other roles, chaired the Swedish UNESCO/IGCP Committee and the Swedish Geological Society.

We are very pleased to hear that Barbara has been awarded the Geologiska Föreningen's De Geer Prize. Congratulations!
