Controlling Personal Data: EU and National Law

The main question of the symposium is the ability of individual to control their data considering public and private information management, EU legal and national constitutional principles, and sector-specific legislation.

The strained relationship between the Swedish constitutional media laws and EU data protection law have been the subject of much discussion in both Swedish legal doctrine and in society at large in recent years. One key issue has been whether the so-called voluntary publication certificates held by search engines such as Ratsit, Mr Koll and Lexbase should be given constitutional protection without carrying out any journalistic activities. The EU legal dimension has, on the other hand, not received equal attention. At the conference, we want to broaden the discussion to also include other regulations of the digital economy and how it affects issues of public and private information management in Sweden.
